My Voice Matters! Students Speak!

Hear our students read their writing loud and proud and see their writing shared loud and proud on paper. There’s so much they have to share and so much they have to say.

You can find new writing uploaded here weekly through the summer!

Our Author’s Chair Method

Every time we meet and write with our students, we encourage them to stand up and share what they wrote loud and proud with their peers. We do this with our Author’s Chair Method, which provides students the opportunity to practice many skills, including:

  • Public Speaking. By reading their writing aloud, our students are able to practice feeling comfortable speaking aloud in front of others and sharing information.
  • Attentive Listening. When one student is reading their writing loud and proud, the rest of our students are expected to listen attentively and critically think about what their peer is saying.
  • Discussion. Once a student has finished reading their writing loud and proud, our other students can ask questions, share what they liked, and what they wanted to know more about.
  • Empathy. Not all of the stories our students write are surface level, in some cases, they are deeply personal. Although, no matter what is shared, our students show empathy toward each other’s experiences.
